Seasoned off-roaders will love this course as it covers the many ways to recover your vehicle using a wide range of techniques and gear. In this course we spend time understanding skills for self-recovery and vehicle assisted recovery. It is recommended (not required) that enrollees complete the Introduction course prior to taking this course.
Day 1

- First Actions After Getting Stuck & Choosing the lowest energy recovery method/strategy
- STOPA – Stuck Assessment and Recovery Plan Checklist Overview
- Self-Recovery Traction Extraction
- Use of MaxTrax and Bridging Ladders
- Correctly Using a Bridle
- Vehicle-Assisted Kinetic Energy Recovery
- Towing a Disabled Vehicle
Day 2
- Advanced In-Field Tire Repair
- Valve Stem Repair
- Repairing Sidewall Tears – Small & Large
- Seating Tire Beads
- Winch Utility
- Choosing an Anchor – Vehicle, Ground Anchor, Tree, Boulder
- Danger at Overloaded Anchor Points
- In-Field Powered Winching
- Winch Accessories
- Self-Recovery Powered Winch Rigging Set-Ups
- Vehicle-Assisted Winch Rigging Set-Ups
Target Audience. Intermediate to Advanced Off-Roaders. It is recommended (not required) that enrollees complete the Introduction to 4x4 course prior to taking this course.
Vehicle Requirements. Any reliable 4WD with 2-speed 4WD transfer case (must have 4-Low gearing). Street legal vehicle in excellent working condition, no fluid leaks. Frame-mounted recovery points front and rear.
Equipment Requirements: None... However this is a list of equipment that will help you take full advantage of the training in this course. However, if you do not have this equipment please do not purchase for the course. We will show you the very best equipment you'll want to purchase.
- Safe Jack to lift raised vehicles
- Vehicle-mounted winch
- Various winch accessories (shackles, snatch block, recovery ring, tree strap, etc.)
- Traction Boards and/or Bridging Ladders
- Polyester Tow Rope/Strap
- Kinetic Energy Rope/Strap
- Tire repair kits
- Air Compressors
